Fatigue and Diet
To be fit and function normally, the human body needs certain nutrients that are only found in our diet. If one or more of these nutrients are missing, then the body doesn’t function optimally and we feel tired!
Superfoods, which are very rich in nutrients, are particularly recommended in cases of extreme fatigue. Some are extremely effective against fatigue due to their content of vitamin C, magnesium, or other components such as caffeine.
5 Anti-Fatigue Superfoods
1. Maca
This tuber from Peru was used by Inca warriors before and after battles to boost their energy levels. Maca is particularly rich in nutrients and notably contains 20 amino acids, vitamins B and C, calcium, magnesium, and copper.
Several studies have shown its concrete effects on athletic performance and endurance.
Usually sold in powder form, preferably organic, maca is consumed in smoothies, cakes, juices, and yogurts.
2. Spirulina
This “blue algae,” 3 billion years old, originates from America and Africa, though today spirulina cultures are found worldwide, including in France.
It is especially known for its exceptional protein content: up to 70%, which is 3 times more than beef… But spirulina is also very rich in minerals (magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, selenium, and sodium), vitamins (A, B, D, E, K), beta-carotene, and omega 6.
It is consumed in powder form to enhance savory dishes or vinaigrettes. Some people also consume it in tablet form, considering its strong “marine” taste!
3. Raw Cocoa
Raw cocoa is non-roasted cocoa. The non-roasting allows preserving the maximum of the many nutrients contained in cocoa. Its positive effect on our energy mainly comes from its high magnesium content, which is particularly assimilable by our body.
Raw cocoa is also rich in vitamin C and amino acids.
Raw cocoa is consumed in the form of beans to snack on, or as powder to spice up desserts.
4. Guarana
Native to the Brazilian Amazon, the guarana seed is extremely concentrated in caffeine (5 times more than coffee) and therefore particularly stimulating.
Guarana contributes to better physical and mental energy, and has a positive effect on memory and concentration.
Guarana is typically consumed in beverages, but also as a powder, teas, and tablets. However, it should be limited to 2 to 3 servings per week.
G. Ginseng
Ginseng root is a traditional tonic for the body and mind in Chinese medicine.
Ginseng is rich in vitamins C and B, and specific anti-fatigue components such as polysaccharides, oligopeptides, and ginsenosides.
Ginseng is available in powder and capsule form, but its natural form (raw in tea for example) is the most recommended.
