Many websites offer home delivery of meal kits. You just need to choose from several recipes to compose your weekly basket, which will then be delivered to your home.

This system operates on a weekly subscription that can be managed at your own pace.

The meal kits can be customized according to the number of people in the family, preferences, and dietary regimes: vegetarian, organic, vegan…

There are 2 types of meal kits:

  • pre-cooked dishes: these are fresh and pre-cooked meals. Once delivered to your home, you just need to heat them in the oven or microwave;
  • meal kits to cook or “cooking boxes”: each week, you will receive all the necessary ingredients to cook and prepare your meals.

They offer many advantages:

  • they save time and avoid the hassle of grocery shopping;
  • they help you eat better, varied, balanced, and seasonal. They are interesting within the framework of a dietary rebalancing, for example;
  • they allow you to discover original ingredients and new flavors;
  • they reduce food waste: ingredients are pre-measured to avoid throwing away.

How did I make this ranking?

I conducted an overview of meal boxes, then selected and sorted the 8 programs below.

My criteria:

  • quality/price ratio
  • program popularity
  • the quality of the recipes and ingredients used (organic, local, etc.)
  • customer reviews

👩🏻‍⚕️ The dietician’s opinion

Pros: For weight loss or to eat healthy daily, Cheef reassures because everything is already weighed, calibrated, and nutritionally evaluated. The validation of dishes by a star chef is a real plus to ensure the whole family enjoys meals daily.

Many options are available regarding the frequency, quantity, and content of meal boxes.

⚠️ Cons: Cheef is not the cheapest option in our selection, but this is justified by the quality of raw materials and dishes.

We loved the excellent value for money (cheapest meal price in our comparison), the taste quality, and the diversity of dishes. We also appreciated the brand’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

Price: starting from €3.63/meal (sliding scale prices)

👩🏻‍⚕️ The dietitian’s opinion

Pros: If you’ve lost the desire to cook, the HelloFresh box is a good way to rekindle your passion for the kitchen.

The recipes are varied, with more than 20 new recipes each week (in addition to the classics) and the ingredients are of quality with a Nutriscore A or B for over 80% of the recipes.

I really appreciate that there is a wide choice of recipes with very exotic or more classic flavors. You can also check reviews on different dedicated sites, they are generally very good in terms of customer feedback.

⚠️ Cons: It’s up to you to choose your recipes well so they are varied throughout the week. Select recipes that highlight vegetables, especially if you find it hard to cook them yourself.

3. Quitoque

quitoque
Quitoque

Quitoque offers meal kits composed of fresh, seasonal, and French-origin products whenever possible. You can choose from 2 to 9 recipes per week, for 2 to 5 people.

Quitoque guarantees dishes ready in 30 minutes maximum. You will have the choice between 27 new recipes every week.

Each basket is accompanied by easy and detailed recipe cards.

The Quitoque subscription is commitment-free and easily modifiable online. You can choose to have deliveries every week or only from time to time. It is also possible to suspend it if you go on vacation, for example.

Delivery is free and available throughout mainland France.

Price: starting from €3.82/meal (sliding scale prices)

👩🏻‍⚕️ The dietitian’s opinion

Pros: Offering balanced recipes prepared in 30 minutes is Quitoque’s true asset. The meats and vegetables are 100% French and you will choose among 40 recipes each week.

Several recipes are available for free on the site, try them. Quitoque is also committed to offering labeled and/or organic products when possible: AOP, IGP, Pavillon France, or Label Rouge…

⚠️ Cons: If you dig a little deeper, only 10 recipes are ready in 30 minutes (actually noted 35 minutes), the others vary between 45 and 60 minutes of preparation.

Moreover, if I look more closely, vegetables are generally sparse or in very low quantity, choose your recipes well.

4. Seazon

seazon
Seazon

The Seazon kits consist of fresh dishes cooked by chefs. They are ready to eat, to be reheated in the oven or microwave.

You can choose from 4 to 14 dishes among many recipes that change weekly. Seasonal, organic, and labeled ingredients are prioritized as much as possible.

You have the choice between 4 main categories: Balanced, Athletic, Vegetarian, and – 500 kcal. You can also filter by allergens, ingredients, or even by Nutriscore.

The Seazon subscription is commitment-free. You can modify your plan, suspend or cancel your subscription whenever you want.

Delivery is free in mainland France.

Price: starting at 8.98€/meal (tiered pricing)

👩🏻‍⚕️ The dietitian’s opinion

Pros: If you are calorie-conscious, under each Seazon recipe you will find the number of calories per dish. On the meal sheets, you can see the percentage of organic, seasonal ingredients as well as allergens.

Want to go further? The nutritional tables provide all the guidance to eat healthily. Seazon is a basket I would recommend occasionally for its nutritional and taste qualities.

Indeed, Seazon is committed to dishes with a Nutri-Score A or B and less than 500 calories with at least 45% vegetables and legumes.

⚠️ Cons: In my opinion, the quantities may need to be reviewed for some light eaters (who can save some for the next day).

The price, at nearly 9 euros per dish, may seem excessive depending on the quantities and the dish chosen. Taking the example of the ham chiffonnade and Dauphinoise potatoes, this seems a bit expensive to me, even though delivery is offered.

5. Les Commis

les commis
Les Commis

By choosing the meal kits from Les Commis, you will receive fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients delivered to your home. The company offers a variety of recipes with 12 new ones each week.

They highlight plant-based options with at least 6 vegetarian recipes per week. The meat is 100% French.

Dishes are categorized into 5 categories: 100% Nutrition, Efficient, Creative, Gourmand, and Vegetarian. They are ready in under 20 minutes.

You can order up to 8 dishes for 2 to 4 people. Some recipes are specifically designed for cooking with the Thermomix.

Les Commis offer access to other products to complete your weekly basket: seasonal fruits, meats, cheeses…

The subscription is flexible and non-binding.

Delivery (2.90€/basket) is available everywhere in France.

Price: starting at 4.69€/dish (tiered pricing)

👩🏻‍⚕️ The dietitian’s opinion

Pros: Les Commis focuses on 100% seasonal and 95% French products, a commitment I particularly like that offers beautiful varied recipes.

Moreover, their recipes are 50% vegetarian and otherwise highlight vegetables.

They have also created the “Commis-Score”, a guide to understanding the composition of each dish according to your preferences or nutritional expectations (low GI, Omega, raw product, oilseeds, legumes, etc.). A concrete help for choosing your weekly menu.

⚠️ Cons: Compared to other kits, you might be limited in your recipe choices.

A box to rely on for quick fixes during the week, to stock up on vegetables and rekindle our desire to cook on the side. Les Commis is less known than previous boxes and more expensive when considering price/dish.

6. Rutabago

rutabago
Rutabago

Rutabago is a site specializing in organic meal kits. They offer dishes to cook or dishes to heat up in 3 minutes in the microwave.

The recipes are made with 100% organic ingredients and ideally sourced from short supply chains. 80% of them are vegetarian or vegan.

Create your weekly menu by choosing from 9 dishes crafted by chefs. You can select 3 to 5 meals for 2 to 4 people.

You can also complete the basket with breakfast, a basket of organic fruits, express dishes, or even brunch.

Delivery is included and available throughout France.

The subscription is non-binding, modifiable, and cancellable at any time.

Price: starting at 4.95€/meal (tiered pricing)

👩🏻‍⚕️ The dietitian’s opinion

Pros: Rutabago is ideal for those wanting to incorporate more vegetarian or vegan dishes into their daily routine (nearly 80% of the recipes).

I find that these kits also offer an interesting aid for starting a transition to a more plant-based diet when unsure where to begin.

The 100% organic nature is also a mark of quality, not found in any other box.

⚠️ Cons: The lack of choice in recipes might be a drawback for some. Only 9 recipes per week can be limiting if catering to a whole family (with children sometimes reluctant to certain foods).

7. Kitchen Daily

kitchen daily
Kitchen Daily

Kitchen Daily offers delivery of prepared meals cooked at home. The recipes are developed by Mauro Colagreco, a Michelin 3-star chef, and approved by dietitians.

27 meals are offered, including 7 new recipes each week. They are cooked using fresh and natural ingredients, without preservatives and additives. The poultry is free-range and the fish is sustainably sourced.

You can order from 4 to 18 meals per week.

Delivery is free and available throughout mainland France.

You are subscribed with a commitment of 4 deliveries. From the 5th delivery, you can change or suspend your subscription if you wish.

Price : starting from €9.50/meal (discount rates)

👩🏻‍⚕️ Dietitian’s opinion

Pros: Kitchen Daily’s dishes are cooked by a chef and approved by a dietitian: two guarantees of quality, if you are mindful of your figure and your appetite.

Delivery is fast and nutritional ratios are respected (20% proteins, 45% carbohydrates, and 35% fats). It’s ideal for balanced eating at the office.

In terms of sustainability, Kitchen Daily also does its part with recyclable boxes, Kraft bags, and electric vehicles for delivery in the Paris region, with carbon offsetting in the provinces.

A service for companies is also possible.

⚠️ Cons: There are 27 meals, but only 7 change each week, so you can quickly get bored.

For me, it is essential to use these prepared meals only as a backup or at least to avoid eating directly from the tray every lunch and/or dinner.

8. Potager City

potager city
Potager City

Potager City prepares and delivers fruit and vegetable baskets directly from producers. The basket’s contents change every week.

The company collaborates with local producers. It selects only fresh, seasonal products, prioritizing sustainable or organic farming as much as possible.

The baskets are available for 1 to 4 people and more.

You can supplement your weekly basket with fruits and vegetables by the piece and grocery products: flour, olive oil, biscuits…

The subscription is without obligation: you can pause or stop your deliveries whenever you want. It’s even possible to order from the store without subscribing.

Delivery is included and only possible at partner pickup points.

Price : starting from €11.50/week

👩🏻‍⚕️ Dietitian’s opinion

Pros: We can never repeat it enough, but for a balanced diet and good health, fruit and vegetable intake is necessary. With this type of basket, you are assured to eat seasonal vegetables, locally produced (for the majority), all year round.

Potager City works directly with its local partners to receive ultra-fresh food. Partners with whom the brand has been working, for some, since its inception in 2007.

⚠️ Cons: The recipes on the site give a glimpse of what you can make with the received fruits and vegetables. However, it’s up to you to showcase them each week and not let them linger at the bottom of the basket!

When you choose a basket, you have no choice of the fruits and vegetables inside. Additionally, deliveries are only possible at relay points and especially around major cities like Paris, Bordeaux, Nantes, Lyon…

9. Aussitôt Bon

Aussitot bon
Aussitôt Bon

Aussitôt Bon specializes in delivering prepared meals, fresh and local. It guarantees meal preparation in 2 minutes 30 in the microwave.

The meals are cooked by chefs using the vacuum cooking technique at low temperature. This preserves the flavors, vitamins, and keeps the food longer. They are free from additives and preservatives.

The recipes are divided into 5 categories: Brasserie, Fitness, Balance, Vegetarian, and Vegan.

You can choose up to 14 dishes and complete your basket with other products: breakfast, fruits, cheeses…

The subscription is without commitment.

Delivery is free throughout mainland France.

Price : starting from €11.23/meal (discount rates)

👩🏻‍⚕️ Dietitian’s opinion

Pros: Low-temperature sous-vide cooking respects the vitamins and taste of the food. It is therefore perfect as part of a balanced diet.

Moreover, the quantity seems larger than other meal plans, which will delight those with bigger appetites.

The products are organic and/or certified to guarantee quality. Aussitôt Bon works with short supply chains and independently certified producers.

The meals are delivered once a week in 100% recyclable doypacks. A significant commitment to sustainable development.

⚠️ Cons: In my opinion, the recipes are very (too?) simple and might be less appealing than those on other sites.

Furthermore, many recipes do not include vegetables (for the reviewed week: Flemish carbonade, sausage/mashed potatoes, pork ribs and potatoes…) and there are quite a few repetitions (7 out of 18 recipes with potatoes). It’s up to you to test!
