Bone health ✪✪✪✪✪
Calcium plays an essential role in the formation, maintenance and strength of bones. Lithothamnion, thanks to its high calcium carbonate content, provides a source of calcium that is highly bioavailable to the body. Its richness in minerals and trace elements (silica, manganese) further reinforces the value of lithothamnion for supporting the health of bones, cartilage and tooth enamel.

Acid-base balance ✪✪✪✪✪
Lithothamnion plays an essential role in maintaining the body's acid-base balance. Calcium carbonate is an antacid that neutralizes both gastric acidity and tissue acidity (acidosis) associated with various conditions such as demineralization, cramps, and fatigue. In addition, a study has shown that calcium can stabilize the cell membrane, stimulate bicarbonate secretion, raise pH, and promote the regeneration of the gastric mucosa.

Osteoporosis ✪✪✪✪✪
A study highlighted the potential of Lithothamne in the prevention of osteoporosis, particularly in premenopausal women. This research, focused on the efficacy of calcium derived from Lithothamne (marketed under the name Aquamin F) compared with standard calcium carbonate and placebo, revealed promising results. nnParticipants receiving Aquamin F showed significantly higher urinary calcium excretion, suggesting superior calcium absorption, a key factor in preventing osteoporosis. Interestingly, treatment with Aquamin F also led to a more pronounced and prolonged decrease in postprandial parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels compared with calcium carbonate and placebo. These results indicate not only better management of calcium absorbed by the body, but also an increased potential for Lithothamne to improve bone health. nnThis study suggests that Lithothamne could represent a more effective option than traditional calcium supplements, offering a promising new avenue for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.nn

Properties
Remineralizing

Taking lithothamne helps compensate for losses of minerals, vitamins and trace elements thanks to its richness in calcium carbonate, a form of mineral easily assimilated by the body. Lithothamne is widely used for its remineralizing effects, notably in relieving muscle and joint pain.
