If you want to have strong, shiny, and healthy hair, know that nutrition plays a fundamental role. A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients, such as proteins, vitamins, and minerals, is essential for beautiful hair.
However, even with a healthy diet, our modern lifestyle can lead to nutrient deficiencies necessary for good hair quality.

Best Hair Supplements: My Opinion
Le Complexe Cheveux – Nutri&Co: Best Hair Supplement 🥇
Advantages
- High keratin dosage
- Bioactive biotin
- Clinically proven
- Made in France
- Transparency
- Outstanding customer service
- No additives
Disadvantages
- Lacks iron and zinc
Nutri&Co is a French brand founded in 2017, offering dietary supplements for sport, health, and beauty.
Although it contains only two active ingredients, biotin and keratin, the Nutri&Co hair complex scores very well in our ranking. This is particularly due to its safety, with an impeccable formula free from controversial additives and also rare transparency.
Indeed, with Nutri&Co, there is no doubt, we know everything about the product we are buying.
The cynatine® keratin used is a patented keratin, made in France, soluble, and bioavailable. Its effectiveness is clinically proven.
The biotin is extracted by fermentation and filtration in a laboratory located in China. It is in the form of highly assimilable D-bioactive biotin.
The Nutri&Co capsules contain 200% of the NRV in biotin and 500 mg of keratin.
The brand’s customer service is efficient and very fast. I received a response a few hours after requesting information.
Nutri&Co is a brand with excellent reviews, it has a rating of 4.6/5 on Trustpilot. Additionally, it is followed by 64,000 people on Instagram.
A one-month treatment of the Nutri&Co hair complex costs 26.90 euros, which is €0.69 per day. This price is somewhat high considering the product composition, but it is perfectly justified by the quality of the ingredients in the treatment.
Effluvium – NHCO: best alternative
Advantages
- 20 active ingredients
- High keratin dosage
- High dosage in zinc
- Presence of iron
- Very good assimilation
- Made in France
Disadvantages
- Lack of transparency
NHCO is a French brand of dietary supplements created in 2008 by a pharmacist expert in micronutrition. This brand specializes in providing its formulas with specific amino acids according to needs.
Effluvium contains 20 active ingredients making it the dietary supplement with the most active ingredients. It notably contains iron, zinc bisglycinate at 150% NRVs, and 100% NRVs in biotin.
To complement its formula, NHCO provides 3 plant extracts: pepper and rocket which promote microcirculation, and horsetail, rich in silica essential for hair production.
The formula is optimized by a high concentration of keratin, the presence of amino acids and collagen.
NHCO’s dietary supplements are French-made, they contain no additives and their formula is created by a specialized scientific committee.
The only drawback, we do not know the origin of all the ingredients that make up the capsule.
NHCO is a trusted brand that has been operating for 16 years, it has a very good rating of 4.8/5 on review sites and is followed by 33K followers on Instagram.
Its customer service is efficient and fast.
A box of Effluvium costs 42.90 euros and is valid for 10 weeks of treatment. This represents €0.62 per day. The price is within the average which is interesting for a product of this quality.
Hair Formula – Novoma: best hair and nail supplement
Advantages
- Presence of keratin
- Bioactive biotin
- Assimilable form of minerals
- Made in France
- No additives
- Effective for nails and hair
Disadvantages
- Poorly responsive customer service
- High price
Novoma is a French brand created in 2012, specializing in dietary supplements for fitness and health.
Novoma hair formula contains 7 active ingredients with very good bioavailability. It notably presents 100% NRVs of zinc bisglycinate, and 200% NRVs of biotin in bioactive form.
It also contains 500 mg of cynatine® hydrolyzed keratin, the amino acid arginine known for improving hair growth and two plant extracts promoting microcirculation, rocket and blueberry.
Novoma capsules are vegetable-based and contain no controversial additives. The formulas are developed and crafted in France in a Toulousian laboratory.
The formula is also effective for the growth and health of nails.
Novoma has a rating of 4.6/5 on the Trustpilot review site. The brand is followed by 14.5K followers on Instagram. Unfortunately, I did not find the certificates justifying the quality and safety of the product on the website.
Novoma’s customer service responded to my questions with precision, but lacks responsiveness. It took 6 days to get a response.
A one-month treatment of Novoma hair formula costs 24.90 euros, which comes to €0.80 per day.
Good Hair – Lashilé Beauty: best hair gummies
Advantages
- 13 active ingredients
- Made in France
- Clinical study
- Zero controversial additives
- Excellent customer service
Disadvantages
- Average absorption
- Only 50% of NRV in zinc
- Lack of transparency
Lashilé Beauty is a French nutricosmetic laboratory. Since 2017, the brand has been revolutionizing the dietary supplement world with its gummies.
Good Hair contains 13 active ingredients with a vitamins and minerals complex including 55% of the NRV in Zinc and 1800% of the NRV in biotin. I find it unfortunate that the zinc content is so low, and the biotin content is so high.
Providing such large doses has no additional effect because water-soluble vitamins like biotin are excreted in urine when in excess.
Hair Complex also contains two plant extracts, silica-rich horsetail and blueberry which activates microcirculation.
Lashilé Beauty gummies are vegan, made with maltitol, pectin, and citric acid. There are no other additives.
Maltitol is a naturally derived sweetener that poses no health hazard, although it can cause stomach discomfort in sensitive individuals if consumed in large quantities.
The gummies are made in France, but unfortunately, there is little information on the source of active ingredients, notably the plant extracts.
Clinical tests under dermatological supervision have shown effectiveness in 100% of users after a 3-month course. Unfortunately, the number of participants in this study is unknown.
Lashilé scores 4 out of 5 on Trustpilot and has a large Instagram community with 117K followers.
Their customer service is quick and efficient, answering my questions thoroughly in less than 24 hours.
A Good Hair course costs 24.90 euros for 1 month, which is 0.83 euro per day.
Hair Complex – Nutralie: best value for money
Advantages
- 16 active ingredients
- Presence of iron
- Good amount of zinc and well absorbed
- Quality customer service
- Attractive price
Disadvantages
- Contains additives
- Lacks keratin
- Lack of transparency
Nutralie is a Spanish brand created in 2018. Hair Complex contains 16 active ingredients, a full range of vitamins and minerals including 35% of the NRV in iron bisglycinate, 65% of the NRV in zinc, and 900% of the NRV in biotin. Mineral absorption is good.
The formula contains cysteine, an amino acid naturally present in keratin, and also four plant extracts known for their anti-hair loss properties, notably palmetto and pumpkin seed.
The Nutralie capsules are plant-based, containing two additives, magnesium stearate which is not controversial and silicon dioxide considered somewhat undesirable by the magazine Que Choisir.
Nutralie’s customer service is exemplary, providing a response in less than 24 hours after the request is sent.
A minor drawback is the lack of transparency regarding the ingredients used. I would have liked to find quality certificates on the website.
Nutralie scores 4.6/5 on review sites like Trustpilot and is followed by 10K followers on Instagram.
A 3-month course of Hair Complex costs 24.90 euros, equating to only 0.27 euro per day. Hair Complex proves to be the best value for money in our comparison.
Organic Hair Complex – Amoseeds: best organic hair supplement
Advantages
- Organic
- 100% natural
- Zero additives
- Made in France
Disadvantages
- Lack of vitamins and minerals
- Lack of transparency
- Slightly slow customer service
Amosseeds is a French brand specializing in the sale of organic superfoods since 2019.
The Amosseeds Hair Complex contains only 3 organic plant extracts. The presence of plant extracts without other active ingredients allows it to obtain organic certification, which is impossible for supplements containing vitamins and minerals.
The plants used are bilberry, whose richness in antioxidants stimulates the hair bulb. Horsetail, rich in silica, contributes to the hair’s beauty, and rocket activates microcirculation, allowing good nutrition of the bulb. The plants are highly concentrated to optimize effectiveness.
At Amosseeds, the capsules are of vegetable origin and contain no additives. They are made in France.
The plants used come from Europe, but the country of origin is unknown. Unfortunately, no traceability certificate is available on the website.
Amosseeds receives a 4.5/5 rating on the Trustpilot website and is followed by 15.3K followers on Instagram.
The customer service responded well to my questions, precisely, but the response time was over a week. It’s a bit long.
A one-month cure costs 17.99 euros, or 0.59 euro per day.
Selection Criteria
1. Nutritional Value
Amount of active ingredient in the product
To take care of hair, many elements are necessary. The more a product contains active ingredients, the more likely it is to target the responsible problem. It will thus be more effective.
Presence of iron and zinc in good quantity
These two minerals are very important for hair growth. For women, often deficient in iron, its presence is a real plus in the dietary supplement.
Zinc, on the other hand, is severely lacking in our daily diet. For a significant effect on hair growth, a minimum of 100% of the NRV is necessary.
Good amount of biotin or vitamin B6
Biotin is the most important B vitamin in “the manufacture” of hair, so its presence is essential in a dietary supplement for hair beauty.
I valued brands that provide between 100 and 400% of the NRV. Some brands offer much higher concentrations, but this is not a quality criterion.
Indeed, there is no point in overdosing biotin because, in excess, it is eliminated through urine.
Assimilation of active ingredients
I based this on the bioavailability of the active ingredients present in the formula.
For zinc, we will favor zinc bisglycinate because it is the most assimilable form. Zinc citrate has average assimilation, while zinc oxide is much less well assimilated by the body.
For vitamin B, the D-biotin form is bioactive and well-assimilated by the body.
For keratin, we favor a hydrolyzed form which optimizes the good assimilation of the amino acids that make it up.
Presence of keratin or specific amino acids for its production
Keratin is the protein that forms 95% of hair. Providing it in a dietary supplement ensures all the amino acids necessary for hair production. It’s a plus that I valued in the ranking.
I also paid attention to the presence of specific amino acids for keratin synthesis like cystine or methionine, traditionally used to strengthen the hair or promote its growth. However, no serious study can confirm their effectiveness.
Presence of plant extracts
Plant extracts are interesting when they are a source of silica, but also to activate microcirculation at the bulb level, allowing for optimizing hair growth and nutrition.
This is an important point to improve growth and naturally boost hair strength.
2. Safety
To evaluate the safety of the product, I mainly relied on 3 criteria.
Presence of Additives
I favored brands providing the minimum of food additives, whether they are controversial or not.
Presence of Controversial Additives
The presence of controversial additives such as talc or other nanoparticles has been severely impacted in the score of this category.
Quality Certificate Available for Free on the Website
This, in my opinion, demonstrates exemplary transparency and often very good quality. It is extremely reassuring for the consumer.
Country of Manufacture
I favored French manufacturing, with a focus on locality and because regulations are important.
3. Brand Reputation and Credibility
To evaluate the seriousness and reputation of the brand, I based myself on various criteria:
- The company’s founding date because age is often a guarantee of quality
- Its publicity on social networks like Instagram and the number of followers
- Reviews on evaluation sites like Trustpilot or Verified Reviews
- The responsiveness of the customer service: I sent each brand a list of questions, thus I could evaluate the speed and accuracy of the responses provided
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the best dietary supplement for hair loss?
It is difficult to answer this question because it really depends on the specific issue. If our hair is not in its best form, it could be due to many factors:
– A diet low in vitamins and minerals
– A diet too low in proteins which results in poorer keratin synthesis
– Scalp inflammation
– Hormonal origins
However, if you have a balanced and diverse diet and take in keratin, you optimize the supply of amino acids specific to hair synthesis. This way, you maximize your chances for having beautiful hair.
Taking keratin alone if you have a vitamin and mineral-deficient diet will have little effect. Because for hair production, different cofactors are essential, the most well-known being iron, zinc, and vitamin B8 (biotin).
If the scalp is damaged, I advise you to focus on a hair supplement centered on phytotherapy to purify it and activate microcirculation.
What is the most effective vitamin for hair?
Several vitamins are essential for hair growth, notably all B vitamins as well as vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin D.
However, the most important is vitamin B8, also known as biotin. Indeed, the role of biotin is to enable keratin synthesis.
This study conducted in 2016 on hair loss shows that more than one in three women is deficient in biotin. This is why biotin is often very present in hair dietary supplements.
Which plants are effective against hair loss?
To combat hair loss, plants targeting different causes can be used.
For microcirculation and scalp stimulation, blueberries, rocket, and ginseng as well as nettle and horsetail, which are rich in silica.
For hair loss of hormonal origin, rather use sabal, Serenoa repens or Venus hair, which contain an enzyme capable of blocking the effect of testosterone responsible for hair loss.
How long does a vitamin cure for hair last?
To be effective and optimal, all laboratories recommend a hair cure lasting a minimum of three months. This is the time needed for a growth of about 4 to 5 cm. However, it doesn’t prevent seeing effects from the first month.
Forcapil or Luxeol: which is the best hair supplement?
I compared the flagship products of these two brands, namely Forcapil fortifying and Luxeol growth, strengthening, and fortification.
Forcapil in capsule form of animal origin: 5 vitamins, 1 mineral (zinc at 150% of the NRV), 2 specific sulfur amino acids, keratin, cystine, and methionine.
Luxeol in capsule form of plant origin: 2 vitamins (B6 and B8 at only 30% of the NRV), 3 minerals at low concentration with a maximum of 30% of the NRV, 2 plant extracts activating microcirculation.
Based on the composition, Forcapil would be more useful in case of an unbalanced and less varied diet. It helps to fill potential deficiencies and provides amino acids that can allow the synthesis of keratin.
Luxeol would be more suitable for people with a good diversified diet but who wish to stimulate their scalp. The vitamin and mineral intakes are not sufficient to cover a possible deficiency. Vegetarians will prefer Luxeol due to its capsule of plant origin.
