Introduction to Novoma

Novoma is a brand that offers very diverse nutritional supplements. They are categorized on the site under several themes: cardiovascular health, immune defenses, digestion, skin, nails, and hair, etc.

The supplements are developed, manufactured, and processed in France (except for the liquid liposomal Vitamin C which is made in the UK). They are GMO-free. 

Most of the supplements are gluten-free, vegan, and colorant-free. Therefore, they can be suitable for those following restrictive diets.

The packaging is recyclable, you just need to make sure to remove the labels.

Range

Among the supplements, there are powders, capsules, and a liquid supplement (liposomal Vitamin C).

One of the first products offered by Novoma was soluble Vitamin C. This format allows it to be easily dissolved in a drink like water or juice. 

In the “Energy and Vitality” range, you can find organic spirulina and Vitamin B12, for example. In the “Skin, nails, hair” range, you will find organic spirulina, but also marine collagen and zinc bisglycinate (a particularly assimilable form of zinc).

Focus on Novoma’s online diagnosis

Novoma offers a diagnosis tool on its website. 

One must answer a series of questions (age, gender, supplement consumption habits), then choose a main objective among the following:

For my part, I chose “I don’t have a specific goal, I just want to be healthy.”

Then, you have to answer a new series of questions about your lifestyle (consumption of fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, etc., alcohol, sports practice, etc.). Then say if you follow a restrictive diet or have allergies. My supplement recommendation is then proposed:

This is interesting but much less comprehensive than personalized recommendations from brands such as Cuure or Epycure.

Our Test

Products: ★★★★☆

I tested several Novoma products: omega-3s, magnesium bisglycinate, and Vitamin C powder.

My package was well-wrapped and had a strip in the brand’s colors. The packaging is simple and colorful. The magnesium bottle is transparent, which doesn’t offer optimal protection against light. 

The labels indicate nutritional information, ingredients, dosage, as well as usage precautions.

An instruction guide can be downloaded online by filling out a form with my contact details. 

Olfactorily, magnesium capsules have a neutral smell. Omega 3 capsules have a slight fish scent. I had no difficulty swallowing them. No fishy aftertaste after taking them!

Vitamin C powder dissolved in water is bitter, so I preferred to dissolve it in fruit juice.

I compared in the following tables the price of organic spirulina and Novoma’s liposomal vitamin C with those of several competitors.

The price per gram of protein of Novoma’s organic spirulina is lower than the price of Nutrimea and Natura Force.  While the phycocyanin rate (the active ingredient in spirulina) is higher.

The price per gram of liposomal vitamin C is lower at Novoma than at Dynveo and Nutrixeal.

The prices of Novoma’s products are tiered. The same product purchased twice is -5%, and -10% from the third purchase. 

Delivery in Metropolitan France is possible at a pick-up point, free from €60 purchases, otherwise the fees amount to €3.90. Via Colissimo it’s free from €100 purchases (fees of €5.50 otherwise). Delivery is possible in several EU and non-EU countries including Belgium, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. 

Novoma’s loyalty program allows you to accumulate 5 points for every euro spent. A €5 discount is offered when you reach 500 points.

There is a referral program that allows the referrer to receive a €10 discount voucher on the first order of their referral. The referral also gets a €10 discount voucher valid on their first order. 

Novoma donates 5% of its turnover to the association Un enfant par la main which helps children around the world.

Transparency: ★★★★☆

Novoma does not always specify the origin of the ingredients in its supplements. Acerola comes from Brazil, the spirulina is cultivated in India. But the origins of the bamboo, horsetail, and Paracelsus complex are not specified.

In the omega 3 formulation, Novoma could specify the fish used to produce the oil.

Analysis certificates are available on the website, and product labels can also be downloaded.

In the traceability section of each product sheet, Novoma specifies the place of manufacture. For instance, marine collagen is manufactured in Aucamville in Tarn and Garonne. The brand does not specify its raw material suppliers. 

Novoma was founded in 2012 by Lucas Pinos and Alexandre Garnier. Lucas was trained at EDHEC, starting his career as a financial analyst. Alexandre, graduated from ESC Bordeaux, initially worked in marketing and founded Noomind, a company specializing in nootropics.

On the site, there is a guide to supplements presenting the main active ingredients in Novoma’s supplements. It includes the description and benefits of each active ingredient. No reference to scientific sources is made. 

Each product sheet presents the benefits of the supplements, the ingredients accompanied by scientific claims, and a detailed user guide. Sources could be cited to strengthen the brand’s expertise.

On the Novoma blog, there are only about twenty articles on well-being and nutrition. The content is written by the co-founders and specialized writers.

According to our information, Novoma will increase its publication rate and enlist naturopaths for writing.

The company collaborates with health experts (laboratories and naturopaths) for product formulation.

More than 150 partners (doctors, dieticians and naturopaths, dieticians) are part of Novoma’s product prescription network.

I used SimilarWeb to analyze the traffic of Novoma’s internet site. In May 2021, the site attracted about 80,000 unique visitors, which is quite high for an online supplement brand.

On social media, Novoma has over 900 followers on Facebook and more than 2200 followers on Instagram.

On Trustpilot, Novoma has almost 2,000 reviews. The average rating is 4.7 / 5. Positive comments highlight the speed of delivery, product quality, and customer service responsiveness.

On the Amazon platform where the products are also marketed, the most reviewed products are the vitamin C powder (nearly 400 reviews), omegas 3, and magnesium bisglycinate (over 150 reviews).

The most favorable reviews on vitamin C powder emphasize the ease of intake and dissolution in a drink. Just like its good value for money.

To contact Novoma’s customer service, you can fill out an online form, send an email to hello@novoma.com or call them by phone. 

I contacted customer service to ask them the following questions:

• Are there any drinks to avoid or prefer for optimal absorption of vitamin C powder?
• Can I consume vitamin C in the evening?
• Where do the bamboo and horsetail in the paracelsus complex supplement come from?
• Regarding omega 3, which fish are used in the oil? What is their origin?
• Are the supplement packages recyclable?

Here are the answers I received:

I received very quickly (in less than a day) clear and precise answers to my questions. 

The supplements are manufactured in France in Aucamville, Angers, and Brittany. Except for the liquid liposomal vitamin C, which is made in the United Kingdom. 

Organic products are certified Ecocert. They are also certified ISO 9001 for quality management (Angers and London). ISO 22000 for food safety management (Angers and Brittany). HACCP for food safety methods (Aucamville and London). Finally, GMP for good manufacturing practices (Aucamville and London).
